Generally speaking, tourists want their holiday to be fabulous. Choosing to stay in 5 star luxury hotels will go a long way toward making anyone’s holiday great. There is something to be said for staying in 5 star luxury hotels – the luxurious surroundings should make you feel so comfortable that you will feel it is a home away from home.
The grading system is not internationally enforced by every country but you can get a good idea of the basic amenities on offer if you look at the star rating of a hotel. In general, 5 star luxury hotels will be worlds apart from their one star counter-parts. A one star hotel will provide the very basic essentials and not much else. Keep in mind that the many things are considered when giving a star rating and these include amenities on offer, service quality and quality of food. You may pay more for an establishment that is higher up on the scale but you are more likely to enjoy your stay a bit more at 5 star luxury hotels.
That is not to say that the lesser rated hotels are typically bad – they may be working their way up the rating ladder – but attaining a five star rating normally means that a hotel has gotten most things right.
In some places in the world, it is not even advisable to look at hotels that have less than three stars and, often in these countries, 5 star luxury hotels are the safest bet. It is not even about the luxury of the suite in these cases but also about the overall experience; the safety of the guest and his/ her belongings and the basic hygiene standards.
To be on the safe side, you should look online for comments about the hotel you are proposing to stay at. This is true whether it is a five star or a one star hotel. Read comments carefully and also take note of the hotel’s response. Are the comments overwhelmingly positive or negative? One bad comment out of ten is fair but five out of ten indicates a problem. Do the people making the comments seem somewhat lukewarm in their praise – Phrases like “Nice hotel.” or “Good views” as opposed to “Fantastic stay” may indicate that people were not blown away in their experience of the hotel.
As with all things though, staying in a strange place is always a gamble. You may love it or hate it. You just have to go out and experience it now.
